Because of the "wave" race start, all award certificates and overall awards will be mailed to the athletes the week following the event.
SWIM
BIKE
RUN
.25 mile
8 mile
2.5 mile
Waves of 10 athletes will start every 15 minutes at 8:00am. Each athlete must complete 9 laps (18 lengths). There will be an official lap counter but each athlete is still responsible for keeping count. If the athlete has not finished at the 20 minute point the swim will still be considered complete and the athlete will continue the race.
Each individual MUST HAVE THEIR OWN BIKE. The athlete's bike will be placed on an Elite Wireless Trainer (SUPPLIED BY THE RACE) in the transition area. Each trainer will be individually adjusted to the the athlete's weight. By doing so, the athlete that weight more must produce more wattage to travel the same distance as an athlete weighing less. Just like on the real road! When the athlete completes the 8 miles they will yell "FINISHED" and immediately start their run stage. A monitor will be there to confirm completion of the 8 miles.
Its time to head outside. One time around the lake and you are done. There is a chance, just an itsy bitty little one, that it might be raining. Hence the name. Don't worry It'll feel great!
TRANSITION AREA
The Transition Area for the race will be the deck of of the pool. Located between an exit door on either side a comfortable breeze will offset the humidity of the pool. Each athlete will be able to set up their transition area 30 minutes before their wave starts. At that point athletes will be assigned to a personal Elite Wireless Trainer set specifically to their weight. At the assigned trainer, athletes will set -up their transition area for the entire race (swim-to bike and bike-to-run). This is where they will go immediately following the swim to begin the bike portion of the race. When the 8 mile bike is complete, athletes will put on their running gear and Go! Go! Go!
